Wheat Ridge STEM
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” - Benjamin Franklin
The Wheat Ridge STEM Program is a group of high school students at Wheat Ridge High School who are interested in engineering. This is not limited to any grade level, we are composed of 9th graders through 12th graders. Established in August of 2014, the team’s goal was to design and build a carbon fiber based car that would be powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. We have competed in the Shell Eco-marathon for the past five years and are going to be competing again this year.
The team was composed of 16 students in the first year, This year our program has reached about 80 people. Many of our students start the class with little to no experience. The goal of this involved project is to teach students how to work together as they design, manufacture, assemble, and compete. This year we are also going to be competing in the NASA human powered rover, TARC rocket competition, and National Robotics League Competition along with the Shell Eco-Marathon.
