Speaker: Tricia Downing, Author/Paralympian Athlete

Though she is a lifelong athlete, Tricia Downing’s “grit” goes far beyond the playing field. As a leader, coach and mentor, she is one who cares deeply about others, helping them to see opportunities at times when they may only see overwhelming challenges.

Seventeen years ago, Tricia, a competitive cyclist, was hit by a car while riding her bicycle. In the accident, she was paralyzed from the chest down. While many others may have seen this life-changing tragedy as an insurmountable challenge, Tricia handled it with tenaciousness and grace and found the strength to flourish. Not only did she return to athletics—competing on the world stage in four different wheelchair sports—she founded and directs The Cycle of Hope, a nonprofit organization created to help other female wheelchair users redefine their own lives. She thrives on helping others see their potential and welcomes the role of “coach,” in guiding them to embrace their unique, authentic and powerful lives.
